Thursday, August 2, 2018 the Old Courthouse lawn in Eutaw was filled with parents, students, family members, police officers and teachers, school administrators as the community came together to celebrate the 13th National Night Out and Back-to-School Rally. The local National Night Out was organized to promote community awareness to strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and local communities. Pastor Michael Barton served as Master of Order.

NAPS graced the audience with performances. On hand to greet the audience were: Greene County Superintendent, Dr. James H. Carter; Mayor of Eutaw Raymond Steele; Juvenile Officer, Deshayla Steele and Parent Involvement Facilitator, Debra Waiters. Rev. Joe Webb, Supervisor of Transportation and Greene County Sheriff Department Lt. Vince Hardwick. Mayor Raymond Steele gave criminals until morning to get out of town. “The Eutaw Police Department will not allow drugs or crime to live in Greene County,” he stated. Numerous booths were in place to distribute back to school supplies, food and safety literature. The Children’s Policy Council, under the leadership of Greene County District Judge Lillie Jones Osborne, provided book bags with school supplies for the children. The CPC and the city also provided free snacks of hotdogs, chips, water and freeze pops. Parents were asked to pickup back packs at the end of the event. These were distributed by the Children’s Policy Council.volunteers. The Greene County Auburn Extension Office Director Lovie Burrell Parks also provided school supplies, clothing, household items, door prizes, snacks to the families. Travis Holmes of Birmingham was on site with his famous Bear Burgers and Polish Sausage. Granny’s Fresh Squeeze Lemonade vendor was also on site. Marlee’s Sweet Treats – Funnel Cakes served many patrons as well. The dual event was presented by the City of Eutaw Police Department, the Greene County Children’s Policy Council, and the Greene County Board of Education..
