Greene County Delta Chapter sponsors Virtual Voter Registration Drive

The Greene County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is sponsoring a Virtual Registration Drive, beginning with the observation of National Voter Registration Day, Tuesday, September  20, 2022.  According to Chapter President Dr. Florence Williams, “Our Chapter wants to empower our service area and surrounding communities to register to vote.   We encourage our local communities to join us in our Virtual Voter Registration Drive.  We welcome all who need to register to vote to use the link below.  The Voter Registration Process is straightforward and will take less than 15 minutes with a valid Alabama Driver’s License or Non-Driver’s Identification card.”
 President Williams noted that if someone does not have a valid AL Driver’s License or Non-Driver’s Identification Card the Office of the Secretary of State will have Mobile ID Units in Greene and Hale Counties on Friday, September 23, 2022.

Merriweather seeks school board District 2 seat in runoff

I, Brandon Merriweather, a candidate for Greene County District 2 School Board, am asking for your support during our Runoff Election on June 21, 2022.  As a native of Boligee, AL, I have educated our youth as a teacher at Greene County High School, volunteered a number of years as a coach for our high school football program, worked several years with the Center for Rural Family Development Enrichment Program/after school tutorial, and volunteered many years at the James C. Poole Jr. Library serving our youth. I hope to receive your support on June 21 and help me fight to improve our school system. 

Local candidate qualifying opens for 2022 election cycle

The Greene County Democratic Executive Committee announces the opening of the local Candidate Qualifying Period for the 2022 election cycle on Monday, December 6, 2021, from 9:00 am through Friday, January 28, 2022 at 5:00 pm, according to Chairman Lorenzo French.
Qualifying papers can be picked up at the Robert H. Young Community Center gymnasium area (former Carver school) between the hours of 9:00 am – 4:00 pm Monday through Thursday and 8:00 am to 12 noon on Friday.
Chairman French stated that the candidate qualifying fees are calculated at 2% of the compensation for that particular office.
Greene County offices up for election in 2022 include the following: Sheriff – county wide; Coroner – county -wide; County Commission seats in all five Districts; Board of Education seats in District 1 and District 2; Democratic Executive Committee in all five Districts.
The District Attorney’s position for Circuit 17, serving Greene, Sumter and Marengo Counties is also up. Qualifying for that office must be done with the Alabama Secretary of State.
The Alabama Primary Election is scheduled for Tuesday, May 24, 2022, with the General Election, Tuesday November 8, 2022.
Individuals can register to vote until 10 days before the scheduled election.
