  • Community Service: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year to Show Our Love for Others Greene County Alumnae Chapter Members host annual Adopt-A-Family in Greene and Hale Counties

    EUTAW, AL — The Greene County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated has consistently served Greene and Hale Counties since 1978. Our legacy of service has operated in this community for over 46 years.

    The Greene County Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated kicked off its 45th Annual Christmas Adopt-a-Family Project 2024 in early November. Members were encouraged to take advantage of Black Friday and other seasonal sales.

    “During this most wonderful time of the year, we show our love for others by giving from the joy of our heart to help those in need” said Phillis Belcher, Chapter President. The chapter has adopted children through Department of Human Resources of Greene and Hale Counties to provide a little bit of Christmas Cheer. Families are recommended by the Department of Human Resources for each county. The chapter requested at least five children per family. Gifts were presented in festive holiday wrappings no later than the middle of December.
    Committee Chairperson, Jacqueline Allen stated, “We want to make this holiday season as memorable as in previous years for the adopted children.” This year a special treat was provided to each child that was adopted, a $25 gift card. This empowered each child to make a purchase of their own choosing for either themselves or someone else. The Adopt-a-Family Committee is chaired by Jacqueline Allen and Marva Smith serves as Co-Chair.

  • Greene County Deltas sponsors Annual Cancer Awareness Walk

    The Greene County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. held its Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, Saturday, October 8, 2022 in Eutaw. Approximately 40 participants gathered at the Robert H. Young Community Center in the rear gym area. The event began with prayers and special tributes. Bouquets of balloons were released in honor of all affected by cancer. Materials and tokens promoting Breast Cancer awareness and treatment were available to all. Healthy refreshments were also shared. The event was a project of the Physical and Mental Health Committee of the Greene County Chapter, where Courtney Mason-Hollie and Schiquetta Burrell serve as Committee Co-Chairpersons. Dr. Florence Williams is Chapter President.

  • DST Chapter awards six scholarships to graduating seniors

    The Greene County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. awarded six $500 scholarships to graduating seniors in the chapter’s service area of Greene and Hale Counties.
    The chapter held a reception on Monday, May 20, 2019 honoring the recipients and their parents. The activities were planned by the Chapter’s Educational Development Committee with Ms. Andrea Perry as chairperson. Mrs. Nancy Cole presided over the activities which included a meditation by Mrs. Shirley Ezell; greetings by Mrs. Isaac Atkins, who also serves as DST Chapter President; a special presentation to the recipients by Ms. Andrea Perry; introduction of sorority members by Mrs. Rebecca Coleman; followed by introduction of scholarship recipients and parents by Ms. Drenda Morton.
    Refreshments were served during the fellowship time.

  • DST Chapter provides gifts for family of 10 children

    The Greene County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. partnered with the Greene County Department of Human Resources to provide Christmas gifts for a local family of 10 children. The sorority members provided toys, games, books, various electronics as well as clothing for each child in the family. All the gifts were selected in attempts to fulfill the wishes of the children. The various lists of the children’s wishes were provided by the DHR staff.
    Mr. Wilson Morgan is Director of the Greene County DHR office.
    Mrs. Carolyn Young and Ms. Jackie Allen serve as chairperson and co-chairperson, respectively, of the DST Chapter’s Adopt-A-Family Committee. Mrs. Isaac Atkins serves as Chapter President.
