The Greene County Commission met for a regular session on Monday, August 10th at 5:00 p.m. in the William McKinley Branch Courthouse. All commissioners were present with Commissioner Turner establishing a quorum and Commissioner Johnson offering the invocation. Previous session minutes and the agenda were unanimously approved.
On Wednesday, August 5th, the county commission began a discussion about raising solid waste fees to sweet account for current fuel prices and improve working conditions for sanitation employees. Commissioners continued to discuss current standard rates and exemption fees with the engineering department, hoping to encourage reconciliation of citizens’ delinquent accounts. No verdict was reached on the matter, and the accompanying agenda items were tabled for review of proper implementation and comparison of surrounding rates.
The following agenda items were approved at the meeting:
- Consider 2026-2027 Contract with Digital Information System
- Consider Department of Youth Contract
- Resolution to authorize the Chair and County Attorney to execute all necessary documents for civil action case number 900014: an ongoing case that began in 2020 of alleged negligence in the working conditions at the W.M. Branch Courthouse.
- Resolution regarding sale of three 2026 dump trucks; the city will receive 2027 updated trucks at no cost
- Consider Board appointments:
- DHR-District 2
- Mildred Morgan for DHR-District 3
- Approval of 2027 Rebuild Alabama report
- Approval of travel:
- Assistant Engineer—AAFM Gall Conference on October 7-9 in Gulf Shores, AL
- Assistant Engineer—Alabama Road Safety Conference on October 13-15 in Gulf Shores, AL
The next county commission work session is scheduled for Wednesday, September 2nd at 5:00 p.m. The next regular session is scheduled for Monday, September 7th at 5:00 p.m.
