The Greene County Commission held a work session on Wednesday, October 7th, and a general session on Tuesday, October 13th, 2026. All commissioners and administrative staff were present.
Mac Underwood presented financials and addressed the Commission’s recent audit. He assured attendees that bank accounts are reconciled every month and bids are voted on by commissioners before being accepted. He also maintained that one bid, voted on in 2020, covered all storm shelters under the county’s jurisdiction to date.
Underwood stated that maintaining detailed bid records, with schedules, would help them prepare for the next audit. As of September 2026, the commission has $2,281,604.37 in unrestricted funds at Citizens Trust Bank and $2,744,416.40 at Merchants & Farmers Bank.
During public comments, Dollarhide Firefighter Willie Ester Autsin raised concerns regarding an increase in water and sewage rates. Attorney Mark Parnell informed Austin that the Commission only appoints Greene County Water & Sewer board members. The appointed board members have no legal obligation to discuss rate increases with the Commission. The Commission encourages citizens to organize and meet with the board members to discuss their concerns.
Commissioner Roshanda Summerville and Willie Ester Austin volunteered to give rides to citizens for voter registration and voting at the polls. You can reach Commissioner Summerville at the County Commission’s office and Austin at the Dollarhide Fire Department.
