On Tuesday, October 28th, the Eutaw City Council met for a regular meeting. Councilwoman Tracey Hunter welcomed attendees and thanked citizens for their patience as the council works to move the city forward. The council approved the agenda and previous minutes without opposition, and there was no new business to discuss. The council quickly approved all new business items before transitioning to individual reports.

During reports, Mayor Corey Cockrell highlighted two council members. Councilwoman Tracey Hunter and Councilman Jonathan Woodruff recently completed 40 hours of coursework to receive their Certified Municipal Official certificates from the Alabama League of Municipalities. Councilwoman Hunter completed an additional 40 hours of coursework to receive an Advanced Certified Municipal Official certificate. The coursework covers topics such as municipal finances, ethics training, duties of the mayor and council, and council meeting procedures. The advanced coursework also included electives on complex municipal challenges such as audits, land use, and risk management.

Following the mayor’s report, Councilwoman Carrie Logan reminded everyone of the Chamber of Commerce’s upcoming event “Business Boonanza.” The event will take place on Thursday, October 29th, in the courthouse square from 5:00-6:00 p.m. Logan’s announcement prompted Councilwoman Hunter to remind everyone of a Trunk or Treat organized by the Children’s Policy Council on Saturday, October 31st from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Carver High School.

Hunter also announced that Greene County High’s Flag Football team advanced to the playoffs. The team will face off against Scottsboro High School next Tuesday.

Following councilmember reports, the floor was opened to the public. Tiffany Gray, a project coordinator from the West Alabama Cardiac Health (WACH) Program, came to thank the council for working with them on a recent project. WACH was able to provide free eye exams and glasses to 24 children in the community. Gray states that she hopes to work with the City of Eutaw again in the near future.

The city council approved the following items:

  1. Approve Registration, Travel, and Per Diem for Joe L. Powell, Magistrate, and Linda Spencer, Court Clerk, to Attend the ADC-CLE Class for Municipal Court Clerk and Magistrates December 3-4, 2026, Montgomery, Alabama.

  3. Approve Resolution Number: 2026-22-Resolution Authorizing Participation In the ALM Economic Development Academy
